Why This Recipe Works
They’re so easy to make! If you’ve got little helpers in the kitchen, this dark chocolate covered almonds recipe is perfect for them to help out with. They can help top off the almonds with their toppings and then portion them out afterwards into baggies if they’re being gifted!
They’re made with simple wholesome ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. We use six ingredients but four of them are toppings.
This is a no-bake recipe. Perfect for those days where you want a delightful chocolate treat but don’t want to heat up the kitchen by turning the stove on.
Key Ingredients
Dark Chocolate — We love using dark chocolate for this. Be sure to cut down the chocolate so that it melts easier and evenly.
Almonds — Make sure you aren’t grabbing salted and roasted almonds! They’ll come out too salty if you do.
Toppings — We top these dark chocolate covered almonds with orange zest, hemp seeds, fleur de sel, and chili powder but feel free to change it up!
How to Make This Recipe
Step 1: Prepare a large baking sheet lined with a silpat or parchment paper. Then, fill a medium pot an inch high with water. Place the pot on the burner over medium heat and bring the water to a gentle simmer before adding in your chocolate in a large heat-proof bowl and set over a pot. Let the chocolate melt, stirring often until smooth and melted.
Step 2: Add the almonds and toss until fully coated and spread out onto the baking sheet.
Step 3: Sprinkle with orange zest, chili powder, fleur de sel, and hemp hearts. Allow the chocolate to cool and set completely or transfer to the fridge to quicken the process. Separate the nuts and serve on a cheese board or in a bowl for easy snacking.
Expert Tips
The toppings I picked give my almonds an extra nutritious edge as with a sprinkle of hemp hearts on top, it helps boost the treat with some fibre, protein, and healthy omega 3 fats. You are welcomed to change the toppings to something else if you wish. Other suggests include: crushed freeze-dried raspberriesorstrawberries,, cocoa powder, flavoured collagen powder, and more!
If you prefer to melt your chocolate in the microwave, you can do so by placing the chocolate in the microwave for 20-25 seconds. Remove the bowl from the microwave and gently give it a stir. Microwave the bowl for another 20 seconds and repeat. Microwave one more time for about 15 seconds and stir.
The almonds can be swapped for a different nut of your choice if you desire.

You can definitely make these ahead of time. They can last for up to two weeks but I doubt they’re be around for long! Be sure to store them in an airtight container.

You can freeze dark chocolate covered almonds for a few months and take them out as you’re craving them. I do suggest letting them thaw a bit first so they’re not as hard straight from the freezer.

You can use either! Just be sure to break up the bar so it can melt evenly.
Is this vegan friendly?
You can use vegan dark chocolate that doesn’t contain any dairy.
