Why You’ll Love This Recipe!

I pretty much count down the days each holiday season until I see the sign at my local Chick-Fil-A that their holiday peppermint milkshake has arrived!

This year I decided I don’t want to have to wait any longer so I figured out how to make it at home and it is delicious. This shake is made with a base of vanilla ice cream with the addition of candy cane, peppermint extract and flecks of chocolate.

Ingredients

  • Ice Cream. My favorite brand is Breyer’s Natural Vanilla
  • Milk. I use whole milk
  • Candy Cane.
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Peppermint Syrup or peppermint extract (not the same thing as MINT extract). I used Torani peppermint syrup.

How to Make a Chick-Fil-A Peppermint Milkshake

  • Combine vanilla ice cream, smashed candy cane, chocolate chips, milk and peppermint syrup into a blender. Add in peppermint syrup or extract.
  • Blend to desired consistency. If you like your shakes thick, add less milk.
  • Top it off with some whipped cream and additional crushed candy cane. And if you want, a maraschino cherry on top!

Tips from Leigh Anne

  1. If your milkshake is too thick, add more milk
  2. If your milkshake is too thin, add more ice cream.
  3. I prefer the flavor of the Torani peppermint syrup but if you all you can find is peppermint extract (not MINT, it’s not the same) it will work fine.
  4. You can also replace both the candy cane and the chocolate chips in the Chick-Fil-A peppermint milkshake by using pieces or chips of peppermint bark

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I use instead of candy canes?

If you don’t have any leftover candy canes at your house go pick yourself up a bag of the Starlight mints that the stores carry all year long, they will work just fine!

Can I make the peppermint milkshake ahead of time?

A milkshake is best served immediately after blending. You can put it in the freezer but it will harden up and the texture will change. If it freezes solid, I recommend putting it back into the blender and reblending for a smoother consistency.

What’s the best way to crush candy canes?

You can put them in your blender and turn them to powder but I prefer some small chunks of candy cane in my shake so I put them in a zippered plastic bag and hit it with a rolling pin or meat tenderizer(on the smooth side) until they get the consistency I like.

I tried it with the peppermint extract and thought it was too much peppermint. Nothing like chick fil a. I dumped it out and made a second batch with all the same ingredients EXCEPT the peppermint extract and it was delicious. Omitting the peppermint extract did the trick for us.

The shake is only seasonal so you’ll have to wait until next holiday season to get one at Chick Fil A but you can make your own at home.
