This recipe for Low Carb Air Fried Chicken should make anyone on a low carbohydrate diet happy.
I like that it can be made in an air fryer as well!

Low Carb Air Fried Chicken

Think of this recipe as fried chicken for the person who does not want to consume a bunch of carbohydrates.
Also, this recipe is for anyone who wants their fried chicken but, without all of the frying.

Personally, I am not a fan of all of the grease that comes with anything that has been fried.
This is because I hate the feeling that fried food leaves me with after I have consumed it. As a result, I must admit, that it has been a really long time since I have eaten anything fried.

Air fryers are the perfect kitchen accessory in my opinion.

I mean, for under one hundred bucks you can have a healthy method of cooking just about anything. After I first started using an air fryer I gave one to just about everyone that I love for a holiday gift. Air fryers are certainly a healthy way to cook (or bake) and thus, a healthy gift to give to someone that you love.

A while back I mentioned that I was ready to move on to the next level of air fryers.
That next level would be to try out the air fryers that are also a toaster oven. I was pleasantly surprised (and very grateful!) at the feedback and recommendations that I received from my readers.

Getting back to the chicken, this is one food that is allowed on so many different diets.

Chicken is low in carbohydrates, low in calories, low in fat and has a decent amount of protein in it. Of course, I am referring to the skinless boneless breast of chicken when I say this. You are free to use the chicken part of your choice in this recipe.

I also like that there are so many ways to prepare chicken.
While you could enjoy your chicken as it is in this recipe, 'breaded' and air fried, you could also eat it grilled, baked or broiled.
It is not wonder why chicken is so popular when you consider its flexibility.

What makes this fried chicken recipe unique really has to be that it is low in carbohydrates.

As you probably already know, fried chicken does come with carbohydrates that have been added to the recipe. Those carbs come from the breading that covers the chicken.

Breading on fried anything is usually made from bread crumbs (Panko) or a similar kind of breading.
However, there are low carbohydrate substitutes for bread crumbs, you can buy low carb bread crumb alternatives online. Another option would be to make your own low carb bread crumbs using low carb bread by toasting the bread on a low heat (120 for 35-40 minutes) until hard and then grinding them up by hand or in a blender or food processor.

You will also need a flour alternative for this recipe.

You can find low carb flour (not baking mix)choices online. I like to use Carbalose low carbohydrate flourfor my low carb baking.

Should I oil chicken before air frying? ›

First, there is a health benefit to air frying over deep frying or pan frying. While I do recommend very lightly spraying the fried chicken with oil before and during air frying, you don't submerge the pieces entirely in oil, and as a result, they undoubtedly absorb less oil in the process.

Just remember that if it's safe and effective to use in a conventional oven, it will work just fine in an air fryer.
